SALTBROOK ON THE BAY

STAY

Simply rustic, budget-friendly cottage in Phinneys Cove.

Changeover day is Saturday.

Think back to when life was simple. Feet were bare, summer breezes blew through screens of open windows, the air was filled with the songs of birds by day and crickets by night. Return to the simplicity you remember and emerge from your summer holiday tranquil and rejuvenated.

We have worked very hard to keep our little cottage pristine from gadgets and whirs and beeps and hums and take you back to nature where you wake to the sound of the ocean waves and light of the morning sun. You won't find television here, or internet or even a microwave. However you will find shimmering beach glass waiting to be discovered, resident seals, pheasants and fox. Gather the family together and play a board game. When was the last time you assembled a puzzle?

Welcome back to a time when life was simple. Cross the street and be lulled by the song of the forest brook. Listen to the music and free yourself to nature once again and sing along with it.Wander the meadow. Pick a bouquet of wildflowers. The meadow is abundant with wild rose and Queen Anne’s lace. But be careful not to get lost in the 6 foot tall ferns.

On the beach, make sure to hunt for beach glass. Remember red and yellow are the most rare. Enjoy watching for seal, porpoise, whale and eagles. At the water’s edge, explore and hunt for starfish and other treasures.

Even an approaching storm is mesmerizing. Watch the bay and the horizon. Often you can see the storm approach - the water alternating hues of emerald and lamb’s ear grey.

While you are here, make sure you visit the fish market down the road in Parker’s Cove for world-famous scallops or lobster (they will cook them for you). And be sure to visit Annapolis Royal farmer’s market to sample some of the abundant organic produce and local bread and wines.

Should you choose to cook while here, the cottage kitchen is equipped with a full size fridge and range. There is a stove-top percolator coffee pot and a french-press, a teapot, toaster and all cooking utensils, dishes and glassware for 4.

The bathroom is on the first floor and has a tub/shower, hairdryer and brand new washer (a clothesline is outside for the freshest of laundry).

Upstairs there are two simple bedrooms -- The front bedroom has a queen bed with a memory foam mattress and down-alternative pillows and duvet. The cozy back bedroom has two twin beds, also with memory foam mattresses and down-alternative pillows and duvets.

Besides the sitting room, the sunporch is a causal spot for reading or a cup of afternoon tea. There is a card table for games and puzzles and a cozy wicker settee.

The cottage was built post WWII of reclaimed 19th century architectual elements. While you are here, this old house is your home - you are part of the past and an integral part of the future. Your family’s memories will live within these walls and forever become part of the history of our Nova Scotia cottage.
